As part of the MultiChoice Group, SuperSport says that it wants to play its part in ensuring environmental sustainability, encouraging viewers across the continent to champion environmental awareness and sustainability in their communities.

As part of its ongoing support, SuperSport adds that it has been actively promoting the Earthshot Prize — what's been dubbed the 'World Cup of Climate Solutions' — throughout its platforms. Earlier in 2024, SuperSport partnered with the Springboks in Cape Town ahead of the Castle Rugby Championship clash between South Africa and New Zealand, as well as with the City of Cape Town, through Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, to raise environmental awareness.

Furthermore, during the Premier Soccer League (PSL) season, SuperSport leveraged its platform to amplify the Earthshot message, encouraging sports fans to become champions of sustainability in their own communities. The message was consistent throughout the sporting calendar, including the 2024 Comrades Marathon.

SuperSport's CEO Rendani Ramovha says, "The Earthshot Prize highlights an important global initiative, which is the protection and preservation of our environment. SuperSport believes everyone can play their part to live more sustainably and in their community. Sport plays a vital role in spreading the message because of the many communities sport touches, and we feel privileged to be able to help raise awareness."

MultiChoice says that it is the official African broadcast partner of the prestigious awards and a member of the Earthshot Prize Global Alliance. As part of the MultiChoice Group, SuperSport wants to play its part in ensuring environmental sustainability. SuperSport also partnered with the Springboks, the City of Cape Town and Western Cape government to promote the message.

Inspired by President John F. Kennedy's famous "Moonshot" challenge to land a man on the moon, the Earthshot Prize was launched by Prince William in 2020 with a similar ambition: to find and advance innovative solutions to the world's greatest environmental challenges. In 2024, for the first time, the Earthshot Prize brings its mission to Africa, celebrating the trailblazing environmental initiatives being developed on the continent.

Taking place from Sunday, 3 November to Thursday, 7 November, Earthshot Week 2024 will be hosted in South Africa, with the grand awards ceremony in Cape Town on Wednesday, 6 November.

According to the event, the week promises a series of landmark events that will showcase cutting-edge environmental solutions while bringing together innovators, investors and philanthropists from around the world. This five-day event will spotlight breakthrough ideas aimed at restoring and protecting our planet.

The awards ceremony on Wednesday, 6 November promises to be an unforgettable evening of storytelling and celebration, with performances from world-renowned artists and tributes to the extraordinary finalists. Five of these visionaries will be awarded £1-million (R23 800 000) each to accelerate their transformative solutions, the event concludes.
