The awards aim to recognise the transformation of the Growthpoint-owned building, which is home to global investment manager Ninety One's Cape Town headquarters, says the company.

Rather than demolishing and rebuilding, the shared vision of Growthpoint and Ninety One led to the decision to retain and reposition the existing structure, combining a major interior refurbishment with advanced sustainability interventions. The approach aimed to significantly reduced embodied carbon while creating a modern, premium-grade workplace, adds the company.

The building recently achieved Net Zero Carbon Level 2: Occupant Emissions Modelled certification from the Green Building Council South Africa, complementing its 5-Star Green Star SA Design rating.

"These awards recognise what can be achieved when sustainability and great workplace design are considered together, and when like-minded property owners and occupiers prioritise environmental stewardship," says Timothy Irvine, Head of Asset Management for Growthpoint's Office Portfolio.

"Well done to all involved in this benchmark green redevelopment. 36 Hans Strijdom shows that existing buildings can be successfully repositioned for a lower-carbon future while providing modern, efficient and exceptional spaces for the people who use them," adds Irvine.

The project aims to advance Growthpoint's goal of achieving a carbon neutrality across its portfolio by 2050.
